Environment

By car, on foot or by horseback, Port Chalmers and the surrounding bays offer dramatic views of Otago’s harbour and coastal landscape. The natural deepwater port is a prime salmon fishing spot, and the harbour's sheltered bays are perfect for kayaking, sailing and rowing. Just ten minutes drive in any direction and you‘ll find isolated white sand beaches sweeping around the Pacific coastline. Closer to home, numerous native bushwalks rich with birdsong offer an insight into how the Otago habourside once was.
